Indonesian police shot dead terrorist Noordin Mohammed Top after they had surrounded a house for eighteen hours in the Kedu area of Indonesia
Features :-
• His death has been reported by local television but police would confirm only that they believed the 40-year-old former accountant was hiding in the house when it was besieged by security forces late on Friday
• Malaysian-born Top is a prime suspect in last month's near simultaneous suicide attacks on Jakarta's JW Marriott and Ritz-Carlton hotels which killed nine people and wounded 53
• Police have launched a series of raids since Friday and two police sources close to the investigation into the hotel attacks said a man suspected to be Top was killed in Temanggung, over 250 miles southeast of Jakarta
• The self-proclaimed leader of "al-Qaeda in the Malay Archipelago" received funding from the real al-Qaeda via an intermediary to launch his first attack in 2003, but his current links to Osama bin Laden's group are unknown
• He has been hunted for over six years
It has been a productive week in the hunt for International Terrorists :-
• First the killing in Pakistan of Taliban Leader Baitullah Mehsud
• Now the shooting of Noordin Mohammed Top
The problem is that there are so many of these guys that two out of the way will have limited impact in the War Against Terrorism!
